General & Counselling Questions
How do virtual sessions work? Do I need to download a specific platform or app?
Virtual sessions are hosted securely through Jane, our online client portal. A session link is automatically emailed to you about 30 minutes before your appointment—no downloads or extra setup required.
Simply click the link, find a comfortable space, and join your session.
Do you offer low-cost or sliding-scale options for counselling or assessments?
McAtee Psychology does not currently offer formal sliding-scale rates. However, if cost is a concern, our administrative team can suggest community-based or lower-cost options in Calgary and online.
Some clinicians may occasionally adjust rates based on availability and circumstance.
Do you direct bill for counselling or assessments?
We direct bill for counselling sessions through most major insurance providers whenever possible.
For psychological assessments, we do not offer direct billing due to the multi-step nature of the process. If your insurer allows reimbursement, we’ll provide detailed receipts to make claiming straightforward.
How does Jane work in regard to child and parent/sibling profiles?
Each family member has their own secure profile in Jane to protect privacy and ensure proper documentation.
Parents can be linked to their child’s profile for scheduling and billing convenience, while each person’s clinical notes remain confidential.
Do you work with third-party programs such as EFAP or WCB?
Yes.
We partner with Wamsley and WCB to support eligible clients. If you’re accessing services through one of these programs, please contact the providers directly before your first appointment so we can coordinate the required documentation.
What is your cancellation policy?
We require at least 48 hours notice for cancellations. Late cancellations or no-shows will incur the full clinician fee.
Online Booking
Booking an Appointment For a Family Member
Booking an appointment for a family member is almost the same as booking for yourself.
How it works:
Pick an appointment time.
Press Complete Booking.
Jane will ask who the appointment is for. You will see a list of all family members, including yourself.
To book more than one appointment at a time, press the Book More button before confirming the first appointment.
Payments with Shared Credit Cards
Here’s how using a family member’s card works:
Example:
Owen has allowed his wife, Addison, to use his saved credit card.
When checking out Addison, Owen’s saved cards will appear as payment options.
Owen’s cards will not appear in Addison’s own Billing > Credit Cards area.
Tips for managing cards:
If Owen has multiple cards, give each one a nickname to make them easy to tell apart.
Go to Profile > Billing > Credit Cards > View to add nicknames.
You can also color-code cards in the same area to make them even easier to identify.
Common Assessment Questions
Can some psychological assessment sessions be billed under the parent?
In some cases, parent consultations or feedback sessions can be billed under the parent’s insurance plan. Coverage varies by provider, so we recommend confirming directly with your insurer before beginning.
How long does the entire assessment process take?
Assessment timelines depend on the specific type of evaluation. We provide a detailed breakdown of session hours and steps on each assessment’s webpage so you know exactly what to expect before booking.
Will psychological assessments be covered by insurance or benefits?
Many extended health plans include coverage for psychological assessments. We recommend checking your policy for details on limits and eligible services.
We do not offer direct billing for assessments. Payment is required at the time of service, and we’ll issue all necessary receipts for insurance submission.
Do you offer reduced rates for assessments?
At this time, we do not provide reduced or sliding-scale rates for assessments due to the specialized nature and time involved in the process.
